The exhibition ‘Rita’s Ritme’ invites you to explore the interesting world of Rita Kok’s weaving, where tradition and experimentation go hand in hand.

In her work, Rita Kok combines supple, natural yarns with unruly materials such as fish string, perspex, rubber, horsehair and guitar strings. Rhythm is a central theme in Rita’s work. From a distance, recognisable patterns change up close into complex structures where lines move through space, touch or overlap. This provides a new perspective on the properties and effects of the materials used and stimulates curiosity.

Weaving tradition with modernity

About Rita Kok

Rita Kok is a leading textile artist known for her innovative weaving techniques. She combines supple, natural yarns with stubborn materials such as fishing line, perspex, rubber, horsehair, and guitar strings.

Rita’s work bridges the gap between autonomous and applied art and fits within the traditions of the Bauhaus and De Stijl. Rita’s work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. Her first woven objects for Japan brought her great fame in that country.

The invitation to participate in the 16th International Arts Festival in Kyoto earned her the prestigious Award of the Jury Prize. Rita continues to experiment with materials and colors, making her recent works increasingly airy and playful. Her art invites a deeper exploration of the unexpected effects of the materials used.
