What if the most depicted face in the world has never actually been seen? In “No One Knows His Face”, artists Monique van Laake, Margot van Laake, and Teun Anders bring together a series of depictions of a figure who is everywhere and nowhere: Jesus.
Not as a historical portrait, but as a vision, layered, blurred, abstract, and confronting. The exhibition is a visual meditation on the unknowability of the divine. In paintings, sculptures, drawings, and installations, faces appear that raise questions rather than provide answers. Each portrait carries traces of projection, desire, memory, or collective imagination. We look, but we cannot be certain whom we see. We recognize, but we cannot grasp anything. Is this his face, or our own?
